Since our recent release last week, POEM++ requires a SSE2 capable PC.
Sorry for not mentioning that before.

wrt OpenCL tasks being even harder to gather then in past weeks/months, is this just GPU tasks being produced even less over the holidays/running off the server even faster? Or has a new GPU version been in the works, with current tasks being run off the servers pending their release? This could all be coincidence, or is a 1.05 OpenCL version getting ready for release?

I wondered that too, no NVIDIA jobs to gather but the counter says that ~44000 OpenCL jobs are available.....

Please look into that guys.

And last but not least: Happy New Year to the whole POEM team and all fellow crunchers!

It's down to 37,000 OpenCL units on the server status page now, with the number of active users over the last day a lower count then it was about 24 hours ago, now....

No. Counter says 0(zero) OpenCL WU available. That's why you do not get a new jobs (though like everyone else about the last 4-5 days)
~44000 (now down to ~25000) is a counter for WUs that have already been sent to crunchers but not completed yet. I finish and report my last WUs from work cache today.

Judging by the fact that the news was not warning of a break in the generation of new jobs, something went wrong in work unit generator (bug or hardware fail).

Nah, not what either of us meant by the count down. Yes the available is 0, but the work units in progress is going down. Which means that WUs aren't simply unavailable, but as they're getting returned, they aren't being replaced by new work units... It's down to aprox 25k units now, and running out. The news was actually about CPU tasks (SSE2 would not apply to GPU tasks), but I appended mention of this to this thread/news item. The news story made no mention to the GPU tasks, in part because I'm asking if they are getting ready to upgrade the GPU app, or if this running out of GPU tasks is just coincidence...

Now, it could be a server issue, or they could be intentionally letting the current batch of WUs run out, if for instance they intended to upgrade the GPU crunching app as they had the CPU app. I'm hoping they will come back with a statement on this after the holidays... Either could be the reason, server hickup, or they stopped WU generation as the new WUs for GPU could require 1.05 POEM++ OpenCL version, and if they don't want both versions to be in the field at the same time, to then have to review together... That this coincides with a recent update in the CPU cruncher app, does sort of bring up question of this, if for instance development on some apps just took a bit longer then it took on others, etc. It's the project staff who would have information, either way, on this...

You are not, but AmigaForever (to whom I wrote) seems thought it is a counter for WUs available to issue...

But in any case, the problem is resolved - today my computer started to get new WUs. And the counter "WU in process" at server status page began to grow: from a low of ~ 18k to ~21k WUs now.
Strange that the admins still not post any updates in the news or twitter...

I hope that it is not temporary, i got a bunch of WUs in the middle of the "no Work" Problem too...i think it was the 31.12..Hope it is not the same now..some WUs and it stops again. O.o

Sorry guys, I totally put this reply on delay....
Of course you are right, I was looking at the wrong position at the status page - guess I really had not gotten enough sleep those days.

Sorry again for the bullshitting....

Since our recent release last week, POEM++ requires a SSE2 capable PC.
Sorry for not mentioning that before.

Ok, missed this thread before attaching my windows XP machine which only has SSE capability. So this morning when it got its first poem++ tasks they have all errored out. Although it is strange that the first task ran for 12,000 secs before failing and the rest failed in less than 60 secs. Now the question is does the cpu version of the poem protein folding app also require SSE2? If it does then my XP machine will have to be detached because it is unable to be used, if not, then it will remain set to no new tasks until you can make the apps selectable from the preference settings.

The poempp CPU tasks do also require SSE2.

@Pepino: Your CPU supports SSE2, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Ok, I see the problem now.
You are using a Radeon Card on a Windows XP installation.

For unknown reasons our application seems to have problems with old Catalyst drivers.
Unfortunately, ATI dropped the full OpenCL support for XP in their latest Catalyst versions.

You can try to upgrade your Catalyst Driver, but according to other users it won't fix the problem.

It's discussed in this topic

Sorry for the bad news..
