Oh, it gets even worse...the last of my systems just finished today and got credit. 2,356 points away from #1 spot.

I really think I will cry now...

Hi Thomas.

It´s very sad to hear that the project will end. Another great german project will leave BOINC, what a pity!

It was my favorite project and it has made a lot of fun to support you. I`ll thank you and the team for the hard work.

You all have make this project to a great success with the support of GPU Cards and the topic of the project, that was very important for me.

I feel honored that I was a part of someting big for over 5 years.

I hope you will find solutions to defeat bad diseases in the near future.
Who knows. Hope I hear some day something about your project in the 3Sat Nano magazine or in the BOINC news :)

If you create another project like this, I`ll be there!

Greetings from Munich Germany

I just purchased a Fury X and hope that it will help POEM. I just received it today and found that I could not receive any packages. Then I see this information. I just want to say goodbye and good luck!

I don't know how it happened, but I got a small bump over night! o_O

So to whoever/whatever that caused that, I am thankful! :-)

It was my pleasure to help you develop these applications.

What a bummer, I switched from Folding@home a few days ago for the increased flexibility of small work units for my little AMD card.

For the case I go to folding@home, does anyone know which team I should go? I think I should go this step, I need somewhere connection.

I can only recommend the PC Games Hardware F@h team. They have a very active and helpful community. I'm not sure if I may post a link, feel free to send me a private message here or on the PCGH forum.

Best wishes.

The Soylent News community is pretty awesome too. Good source for Nerd News too.
[edit in case it wasn't clear] They have a F@H community as well.

I've crunched only the last year, but I would to say thanks to POEM's Team and Vladimir Tankovich for sharing your work.

And feel free to come back with the "big project". ;-)

Hi again... If I understood aright, the POEM folding algorithms will be provided to other scientific groups which can do further research on particular proteins. That is positive.

But in my opinion, the transition of knowledge and setting up the infrastructure, both server hardware and software (and the GPU accelerated algorithms) is even more important. Researchers in the field of molecular biology sometimes don’t have extensive computer skills, so they could benefit a lot from the treasure of experience the POEM team has.

If the institute could make Thomas Koch available as a consultant advisor (provided that he agrees), that would have great impact on further success stories. Of course someone has to pay him for that. What if we provide our computing power for a few weeks more - but mine Bitcoins instead - and donate them to the institute, so that they can cover the worktime and travel expenses? In this way we could assist at the birth of follow-on projects and put things on the right track.

I suspect, the price of the electricity is more than the bitcoin mined.
What a futile and useless idea the whole of a bitcoin is!

One can also donate real money, whatsoever. That is not the point. I would like to contribute that the knowledge of POEM is preserved and passed on the follow-on projects. That will be difficult just from a source code, it requires work time, practice and introductory training, and therefore money. Any counter proposals?

I thought there was going to be a gradual reduction in WUs available over the next 2 months. No?

Thats what I thought as well. I guess they meant they were going to leave the servers up for 2 months to clean up the stuff already sent.

I am holding to a tiny scrap of hope they will dump one more set of tasks. I have seen other projects wait to run completely dry before sending new units....and POEM is about a day from being completely dry.

Fingers crossed and GPU's are getting itchy....

Alas, POEM has closed.

Best wishes for all of the staff.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again. (Roy Rogers)

Its been a pleasure support this project last few years.
Thanks to all project team for good work and good luck with your future endeavors!
If you are ever going to launch new biology based DC project later - just let us know. I'll be there with my GPU fleet.

Farewell!

And to all fellow crunhing volunteers: Hope we all meet in another life worthwhile DC projects.

Thanks, Thomas for the reference.

If some institution or company would like to use this code for research or develop this approach further, i'll be happy to explain the implementation and open for other kinds of collaboration. Protein simulation has alot of similarity to 3d computer vision and i think that solutions developed there can be re-used to speedup medical research.
