Dear POEM@HOME community,
first of all we want to express our deepest gratitude for every contributor to our project. Last year we developed a GPU optimized version of SIMONA, which is used as part of POEM@HOME, which speeds up the calculations by various magnitudes. Due to this speedup it has been very hard for us to supply sufficient work to saturate our BOINC project.
Therefore after eight years running, we have so much computational power that we do not require your large and generous contributions to conduct our science anymore. At the same time other, smaller and bigger projects require more computational power than ever.
The GPU accelerated algorithm will be open-sourced so that other groups can use the efficient forcefield freely to conduct research on GPU clusters on their own (the timeframe for this will be until Christmas. The code is ready to be shipped and the paper is written, but needs to be peer-reviewed before).
We are sorry for the hiccups in the last month; we would have liked to prepare a cleaner and better run of the final tasks.
Thank you again for your amazing support and we hope that your contributions will help other BOINC projects from now on. We want to especially thank Vladimir Tankovich for his contributions to the GPU code.

Yes, basically all projects which deal with protein folding, but there are some limitations in regard to CPU and GPU usage.

Another cancer related project is
WorldCommunityGrid - Mapping cancer markers.
But they aim at cancer screening rather than drug development.

Sad to see POEM go but I am glad they feel they have fulfilled their mission.
I am also glad they are going to provide their gpu code for others to use, so maybe we will see some worthwhile projects in the future.
I just have one question. Could you have at least waited until I got 2 billion points :-)

My best regards for server-side people (developers, managers and scientists) and client-side too (others contributors, like me). If to future you would need more compute power, I'll be there (with CPU and GPU too) :)
I'll continue computing for WCG (mainly), SETI@Home (sometimes) and Einstein@home (rarely xD).

I am now faced with the choice to turn myself to another project, or to give my Boinc machine to my brother. For this reason it would be helpful to know the day poem@home finally goes off the net.
Until a year ago, I have been concentrating on malaria control for 5 years. 5 years in 24/7-Mode ... Then the project was finished and i come to poem@home. And now THAT. I bought a GTX 750TI a few weeks ago, to crunsh also with the GPU.
Sure this is the end?
I think I find a team at Folding@Home who is looking for people who are willing to give their entire computing power to the project for 365 days in year. But I will not go!:(
For the case I go to folding@home, does anyone know which team I should go? I think I should go this step, I need somewhere connection.
On the other hand ... the electricity provider here in Germany will increase significantly the electricity prices. I would come to roughly 280 € in the year ... Well, others drink and smoke.
