The new POEM@HOME version is now live. Both CPU and OpenCL versions have been updated.
In combination with the release, we also started three new types of GPU work units. Special thanks go to Vladimir Tankovich, whose GPU code made this possible.
Important: If you configured your client to run multiple GPU jobs on a single ATI card, jobs may fail. We are still investigating in this case. If you get this error, please adjust your settings to only run one POEM job per GPU in the meantime.

First result is in. Validated.
Good job, Team!

The only thing is: after reporting the finished job a next one was not sent automatically, it required a manual update.

Hm, my timings of 970X are about 25% slower than 2 months ago and there were no significant changes to the kernel... need to take a look what's going on.

Maybe because the data being processed is different, and the initial state is a fully folded protein, so there is less water in grid.

Great news and nice work!
Another would be to add instructions AVX / FMA in the kernel for the CPU. :-D
Thanks!

Four new tasks completed and validated on my Pitcairn, AMD R9 270X. CPU time reduced to about 10% of total time. It looks good here.

I am running two tasks on the single GPU with two dedicated CPU cores (of 8).

I have changed to run one task per GPU. GPU activity 84% or less.

I get calculation errors with this new version.
It was fine with 2.01.
Linux x64. (Linux Mint, based on Ubuntu)
All WUs are immediately failing.

Hi Francois,

thanks for the report.
Beginning with this version, we don't ship the OpenCL library, because the client's version should be loaded.
I did not think about pure CPU machines, which do not have any OpenCL libraries installed.

As a workaround, I temporarily re-enabled the old CPU application. AFAIK your host should automatically use the old version, if the new one fails.

If that doesn't work for you, please tell me.

Best regards
Thomas

really good implementation !
the only problem I had was due to multiple WU running on the same GPU, but because the load of the GPU now is about 80% - 100% is not necessary to run more than one WU at the same time

BTW

Hello Thomas,

I have also problems with the new POEM++ OpenCL version 2.17. After 5-10 percent it is going to stop. I tryed 8 WUs. I don't run multiple GPU jobs.
I had never issues with the POEM++ OpenCL Version 2.01.

Windows 7, NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M (2048MB)

Best regards,
Bonifaz

GGPA, you may want to free up some more CPU for the ATI POEM task. Even if it thinks it uses just 1%, the opencl driver does not have enough system priority to run good when CPU use is close to 100%.

When I tried version 2.10 with Linux Mint 17.1, I had could not use proprietary drivers. Try the default drivers if you are not using them.

Bonifaz, can you try updating drivers to more recent ones?

Is it normal for these GPU tasks to take up to 6hrs. using an R9 290? GPUZ seems to show very little gpu usage.

if it's 2.17 then it's not. Do you have enough CPU available? your card should do one WU in about 30 minutes. Can you try stopping it and starting again then post a link to the WU once it finishes?

Also, if you have any other task running on the same card, please suspend it. unfortunately 2.17 wants exclusive access on faster AMD cards.

I don't understand, sorry.
2.10?
What drivers are you talking about?

As I said, 2.01 runs fine, so everything it needs seems to be there.

Hi Bonifaz,

The problem is that you run out of CPU/HOST memory. The new OpenCL code uses much more memory, because it generates more data to keep the gpu busy.

You could try to shut down any memory intensive applications via the task manager.
