I just upgraded a machine to this new WHQL driver. Performance at POEM went down from 1900 s/WU to 2400 s/WU - that's a serious performance hit! Is anyone else affected by this as well?

I upgraded from BOINC 7.0.64 to 7.2.x at the same time.. but this shouldn't affect actual calculation speed.

Well... I guess that's difficult to test without GPU WUs :/
Anyway, I rebooted the machine since then (didn't do it after the installation, didn't need to for driver updates in the recent years). Let's if this help!

I just saw this at DistRTgen and PrimeGrid:
"When I upgraded to the 331.58 driver for Windows on 3 different systems, all 3 had 10-15% longer runtimes at the same clocks as before. One was a GTX 460 on a 2600K system; One a GTX 560ti on a PII 1100T; and one with a GTX 570 on a 3570K. Don't know if non Fermi GPUs are affect the same way. Reverted back to the 327.23 driver and back to normal."

So you are not the only one seeing slowdowns.

The Folding people are very unhappy too with 331.58. (Their new Core_17 uses OpenCL.)

Thanks for reporting!

Today I also reverted to 327.23 and performance is back where it should be. It's a GT640, so Kepler is also affected. The new driver is labeled "game ready". Ha, I'd prefer a "crunching ready" driver! And at least no steps back in OpenCL..

EXACTLY what I was thinking they should do to open up a whole new line of customers! AND since Boinc doesn't really change that much once done it shouldn't be that hard to do minor updates to it. I mean there are people still using some very old versions of both Boinc and gpu software and they are crunching just fine.

BTW: have any of you observed lower CPU usage with the new driver? I don't want to switch back to test..

You might find this somewhat useful - a response from ManuelG in the 331.93 feedback thread, acknowledging a Folding performance problem. They're still working on it.

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/648687/geforce-drivers/-official-nvidia-331-93-beta-display-driver-feedback-thread-released-11-27-13-/post/4034125/#4034125

I frequently read the driver feedback threads to find issues others are reporting.

Thanks for watching and sharing! That comment doesn't sound too bad, so I'll keep patient.
